Driving Instructor
Introduction
Are you an experienced heavy-duty vehicle trainer with a passion for road safety and operational excellence? The eThekwini Municipality is seeking a dedicated Driving Instructor to join the Fleet Branch within the Plant and Engineering Department. This is a great opportunity to help develop competent, confident drivers who are critical to service delivery in Durban. To train and assess staff in the correct driving procedures, ensuring competence in operating Cleansing Solid Waste (CSW) vehicles, including compaction units and trailers, while promoting safety, compliance, and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide training for new drivers and refreshers for existing staff on CSW vehicle operations.
- Instruct drivers in the safe use of compaction units and trailers.
- Monitor, assess, and report on driver performance.
- Maintain up-to-date training records and ensure compliance with the Road Traffic Act.
- Verify all drivers have valid PrDPs and correct licenses.
- Identify and report high-risk drivers to the Fleet Manager.
- Stay informed about legislative updates and integrate them into training programs.
- Perform additional assignments related to the training function.
Essential Requirements
- Grade 12 (NQF Level 4) or equivalent.
- Valid Assessor Training Certificate.
- Valid Code EC driver’s license.
- Valid Professional Driving Permit (PrDP).
- At least 3 years’ experience training drivers of heavy-duty vehicles.
- Computer literacy.
Preferred Requirements
- Diploma (NQF Level 6) or equivalent in Training and Development or related field.
- 4 years’ experience as a heavy-duty Vehicle Driving Instructor.
