General Assistant

Introduction

We are looking for a General Assistant to join our Fruit and Veg team, ensuring customers have a pleasant shopping experience while maintaining a clean, organised, and well-stocked store environment. Your friendly and helpful attitude will be key in delivering excellent customer service.

Location: Hospital Hill, Western Cape, South Africa
Employment Type: Permanent | Full-Time (8 hours per day, as needed)

Key Responsibilities

• Assist customers in locating items, sharing accurate product information, and answering questions.
• Promote sales by informing customers about promotions and special offers.
• Handle cash and card payments, issue receipts, and process refunds and exchanges.
• Receive deliveries, organise products, and track stock.
• Restock shelves and fridges promptly and neatly.
• Dispose of store and storeroom waste properly.
• Assist with stock takes.
• Maintain cleanliness in designated areas including the storeroom and kitchen.
• Follow safety, security, and environmental procedures.

Requirements

• Matric.
• Experience in roles such as General Assistant, General Worker, or General Clerk.
• English proficiency.
• Residing within 25km of Hospital Hill, Western Cape.
• Clear criminal record.

Preferences

• South African candidates between 18 and 65 years.
• Previous experience in customer-facing roles.
• Experience with cash registers or computer-based POS systems.
• Ability to handle customer complaints with a positive approach.
• Experience with stock takes and maintaining tidy shelves and fridges.
• Awareness of correct pricing and prompt action on price discrepancies.
