Basic Police Development Learning Programme
Introduction
The South African Police Service (SAPS) invites young, committed, and disciplined South African citizens to apply for the Basic Police Development Learning Programme. As a Student Police Trainee, you will undergo structured training to equip you with the skills to serve and protect the community, uphold the law, and contribute to building a safer South Africa.

Job Type: 24-Month Contract (Basic Police Development Learning Programme)
Stipend: R4 500.00 per month
Core Responsibilities
- Prevent, combat, and investigate crime.
- Maintain public order.
- Protect and secure the inhabitants of the Republic and their property.
- Uphold and enforce the law.
Generic Requirements
- South African citizen (proof required).
- Aged 18-35 years.
- Grade 12 (Matric) certificate or equivalent (proof required).
- Proficient in English and at least one other official language.
- Medically, mentally, and physically fit.
- Willing to undergo training and take the oath of office.
- No visible tattoos when wearing the SAPS uniform.
- No previous criminal convictions, pending cases, or dismissals for misconduct.
- Prepared to serve anywhere in South Africa.
- Pass psychometric, medical, and physical fitness assessments.
- Allow background checks, security vetting, and fingerprint verification.
Additional Advantages
- Valid driver’s licence (light motor vehicle).
- Tertiary qualification (NQF Level 6 or higher) in Criminal Law, Policing, Forensic Investigation, or similar.
- Grade 12 certificate meeting requirements for Bachelor’s Degree, Diploma, or Higher Certificate studies.

Applicants with chronic conditions or physical impairments that may hinder training may be excluded.
