Introduction

A leading retail store is seeking a dedicated and customer-focused General Assistant to join its Pretoria branch. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring excellent customer service, maintaining store merchandising standards, and upholding health and safety protocols within the store.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Service

  • Assist customers with product advice and respond to general queries.
  • Resolve customer complaints professionally and promptly.

Merchandising

  • Ensure bulk stock is merchandised safely and in line with the store layout plan.
  • Maintain full merchandising of your assigned area as per planograms.
  • Accurately label shelves with pricing and ensure promotions are up to date.

Housekeeping

  • Keep aisles and shelves clear of obstacles to ensure safe and pleasant customer navigation.
  • Merchandise stock immediately after receipt.
  • Complete daily housekeeping checklists for canteen and toilet/shower areas.

Health & Safety (OHSA)

  • Follow OHSA safety requirements including wearing safety gear.
  • Keep your area safe for both customers and team members.
  • Report any safety or stock risks to the Store Manager.

Stock Management

  • Identify and report damaged stock in your area.
  • Prevent stock loss through proper handling and accountability.

 



 

 

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 10 or NQF Level 3 with 1 year relevant work experience, or
  • Grade 12 without prior experience
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English and the dominant regional language
  • Valid South African ID or valid work permit
  • Ability to perform basic maths/calculations accurately
  • Willingness to work shifts, including weekends and public holidays
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced retail environment
